Guide of Castelldefels

Castelldefels is a town located right on the coast, just 25 km from Barcelona and 10 minutes from the airport. The city of Castelldefels has more than 64,000 inhabitants, 30% of whom are from abroad.

Castelldefels is a coastal city very close to Barcelona, an old village in the comarca (county) of Baix Llobregat which experienced steep growth in the mid-20 th century as a result of Barcelona’s economic development. Today, Castelldefels has become an important residential city for anyone looking for the convenience of being near the big city but seeking more peace and quiet.

One of the strong points of Castelldefels is its outstanding connections with Barcelona thanks to the RENFE train stations and several motorways that connect the two cities and lead to the airport. In addition, Castelldefels can also boast of being a coastal city where you can find outstanding accommodations in its residential neighbourhoods near the Mediterranean.

Castelldefels has three clearly distinct areas: the beaches, the university zone and the central area between the beach and the village centre, and finally the central and mountain area.

Within the beach area, you can find three clearly residential neighbourhoods right on the coastline, La Pineda, Lluminetes y Baixador. Another popular part of Castelldefels is the university zone represented by Gran Vía Mar, where you can find the most prestigious, renowned schools, such as the Telecommunications and Aerospace School of Castelldefels and the British School of Barcelona. Can Bou is the area adjacent to Gran Vía Mar with all the services you could need, large green spaces and housing estates with swimming pools and children’s playgrounds.

Other noteworthy housing estates in Castelldefels include El Poal, which is known for
its large houses and scenic views of the sea; Bellamar, with views of the sea and of the Garraf Nature Park, where prominent personalities from the world of sports reside; Montmar, the older stately quarter where the oldest houses with the most land in Castelldefels are, although in fact it is the home to both old estates and new homes. The two most modern housing estates are Can Roca-Muntanyeta, which is located behind the urban nucleus and stands out for its proximity to the village and railway station, not to mention the wide variety of services nearby; and Els Canyars which is primarily homes with swimming pools and communal areas, plus it is adjacent to the forest and the Garraf Nature Park.

Three other extremely popular housing estates which are usually associated with Castelldefels but actually belong to the township of Sitges are Les Botigues de Sitges, Garraf Dos and Rat-Penat.

The urban area within Castelldefels is called El Castell-Poble Vell, and this is the location of the retail heart of the city, the main avenue crossing the town and the Town Hall. This is one of the most popular and historical areas within the city.
