It is quite difficult to believe that a small paradise can exist in the middle of ‘El Gótico’, but just a few metres from the hustle and bustle of ‘Las Ramblas’, the busiest area of Barcelona, we find a little miracle ─ the oasis does exist: the gardens in ‘casa Ignacio Puig’.
These gardens are located in a secret spot – not really secret, just a bit difficult to find. They can be accessed by the reception of a hotel in Boquería street, 10, or by a lift in Arolas street.
With a great number of magnolias, laurels and lime trees around, you can sit in one of the benches or on the chill out sofas that the hotel has for the visitors. Once there, you will be able to forget about the noisy surroundings for a while.
Currently, the gardens are a private property with public access – open to everyone from 10:00 to 18:00. In the winter, when the sun hides earlier, the lights that the hotel installed all around the garden make the place look as if it was taken from the pages of a fairy tale.
An unknown place
This is one of the most exclusive places in the city, and, when the little ponds on the garden are functioning, the sound of the water and the atmosphere turn the place into a small piece of heaven.
The garden was created in 1861 as a green space for the XIX century mansion. Its façade is one of the first works of Josep Puig i Cadafalch, architect of ‘Casa Macaya’, ‘Casa Amatller’ and the ‘Quatre Columnes de Montjuïc’.
