Horta-Guinardó Guide

The landscape and fascinating distribution of its different barrios make Horta-Guinardó a unique Barcelona neighbourhood.

This area is set in the foothills of the Collserola Nэtural Park, with exceptional views of the city and quiet hidden corners with old manors built by Catalan people returning from the Americas.

The barrio starts at the magnificent Hospital de Sant Pau, the outstanding project by Lluís Domènech i Montaner dating from 1902 in the lower reaches of the neighbourhood. It is one of the outstanding examples of the Catalan Art Nouveau and is a UNESCO Heritage of Humanity site.

From here, Horta-Guinardó stretches up int the beautiful Collserola Natural Park beyond the Ronda de Dalt, where many of the grand and interesting properties and country houses of historical significance still stand.

The old town of Horta has many alleys and narrow streets, including Carrer de la Creueta, a narrow alley which barely allows one person to pass through. This area is also home to the oldest park in town, the fascinating Parc del Laberint d’Horta (Maze Park).

The neighbourhood benefits from the fresher mountain air found in this lofty position overlooking the city and the sea. Numerous parks and green areas enhance this healthy feeling, along with a wide range of new sport facilities.

There are also excellent hospitals, civic centres and residential homes that show a common dedication to the wellbeing of the community, and to Barcelona as a whole.

The different areas include Sant Genís dels AgudellsMontbauLa Vall d’HebronLa TeixoneraLa Clota and El Carmel. El Carmel’s hilltop location has caused many difficulties in the past, but many important works have taken place in the last few years and made significant improvements to life in the neighbourhood. These include the Túnel de la Rovira and La Rambla del Carmel.

Other areas include Font d’en Fargues and Font del Gos. In the south are Can Baró, Guinardó and Baix Guinardó, where you’ll find two significant green areas – the Parc de les Aigües and the Jardines del Príncipe de Gerona.
