Guide of Sant Andreu

Sant Andreu is a fascinating district, originally an industrial area until many of the factories and workshops were dismantled to make way for the Avinguda Meridiana, a major traffic artery in and out of Barcelona.

In spite of the big changes and actual and planned development in the area, Sant Andreu has managed to retain much of the charm of its original existence as a farming village. It has a very proud and active community and residents have brought about great improvements in the district.

Average house prices here are amongst the lowest in Barcelona, but the planned arrival of the high-speed train (AVE) is expected to be a turning point. La Sagrera Station will become one of two stops in Barcelona.

Most changes are expected to be in the lower part of La Sagrera and Sant Andreu and beyond that to Bon Pastor and Baró de Viver, while the influence of the AVE on the barrios of CongrésIndians and Navas in the south and Trinitat Vella in the north is expected to be less pronounced.

One of the most significant changes in street planning undertaken in Sant Andreu was the construction of the Nus de la Trinitat, an important junction for the Rondes that encircle Barcelona. Inside the centre is the access to the underground station Trinitat Vella and Parc de la Trinitat.

In Bon Pastor, the huge shopping centre of La Maquinista has been built, again on old industrial land where factories and workshops used to stand.
