Jordi Vila’s Alkimia straight to the table

The most exclusive and sophisticated kitchen in Barcelona is located in Alkimia restaurant, which just reopened its doors after closing a year ago.  Their owners Jordi Vila and Sonia Profitós have their new establishment on the first floor in ‘Fábrica Moritz’, near in ‘Ronda de Sant Antoni’.

If you are not familiar with the area, it will not be easy to identify the exact spot at first sight. To access the restaurant, you should ring the bell in the annexed entrance hall of the old Catalonian beer factory. After climbing up a few stairs, you will find the restaurant that is divided in two areas which offer different services.

There are six tables for a total of 18 dinners where you can enjoy local cuisine, where new culinary trends and tradition get together in sophisticated menus: pepper and anchovy ‘coca’, calamari’s or chicken with pumpkin raviolis, are just some of the dishes that their menu offers.

In their second area, you can find more casual gastronomic proposals ─ they serve from red peppers with rice, to grilled macaroni and cheese.

The predominant colour in the restaurant is white, which gives a sense of luminosity and purity, completely in line with the chef’s proposals. Furthermore, the decoration by the interior designer Chu Uroz, gives a modernist touch to the ceilings and walls with wood structures that create geometric forms, which remind us of natural elements. One of the most notable decorative elements are test tubes which contain the culinary elements that are used in the preparation of the restaurant’s exquisite menu.

If you want to enjoy local products treated with care, and professionally served, Atipika Barcelona has different apartments in this area, that is one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in Barcelona. This loft is very bright and it is situated just a short walk from ‘Macba’ and ‘El Mercat de Sant Antoni’, isn’t it the perfect place to relax after such a great gastronomic experience?
