‘Hivernacle de Sants’, in Barcelona, was closed from March until the 12th of December last year. This historic building dating from the end of the XIX and beginnings of the XX century used to be a dye factory and served as an ammunition foundry centre during the Civil War – it even was the headquarters of a small company that made little pieces for electrical appliances.
Nevertheless, for the last 30 years it has been a gardening centre, a little plant oasis that was an emblematic spot in the neighbourhood. It offered different kinds of cultural activities and different spaces for children to play. After it closed, the neighbours started to reclaim this space full of charm.
Now, Flowers by Bornay have just stablished their workshop-store there, bringing this emblematic place back to life, filling it with delicate flowers and plants.
Bornay is one of the most renowned floral companies in Barcelona. It has participated in projects with brands such as Burberry and productions for magazines such as Casilda se Casa. So, their space is re-opening now to the public in ‘Calle Melcior de Palau 36’. With their workshops they share their inspiration and technic sophistication, and their students learn to make bouquets, centrepieces, headbands or accessories.
As they explain in their web page, it is also possible to be part of their team for a whole day. “One member of the team will accompany you during the whole work day to get to know all the details of the techniques and inspiration of the Bornay universe”. Besides, this unique 420sq m space and its 234sq m parking can still be rented for private events.
