Botafumeiro restaurant, an ode to seafood
As if it was a tribute to the sea, in a glassed window, fish and crustaceans welcome the clients that arrive to this restaurant in Barcelona. This sort of mosaic, right in the restaurant entrance, lets people know that wild fish and seafood are essential in their dishes.
In this restaurant, located in Gran de Gràcia 81, they only offer fresh product from the season which have been chosen in auctions in the Galician and Catalan coasts. Besides the quality of the products, they take good care of the appearance of each dish served.
Last year, the owner, Moncho Neira, got the recognition of ‘Gallego del Año en Catalunya’ that ‘Foto da Terra Galega’ has been giving for the past ten years. He was awarded with the prize because he publicised and promoted Galician culture in the Catalan city.
In their menu, you can find delicious dishes such as Iberic jam, clams, spider crab cake, rices, prawns… a long and succulent list in which you will have trouble choosing from. Apart from their dishes filled with fish and seafood, they are also well known for their great quality meat and the ‘lechal a la brasa’ is one of their specialties.
In Botafumeiro they understand that having an excellent-quality product is fundamental to be considered, since 1975, as the referent when talking about seafood restaurants in Barcelona. Neira claims that “when the ingredients are the best in the market, the only thing to be done is to respect the product ─ cook it and season it just to make the flavour stand out”.
