Nou Barris Guide

Located further north of the city and bordering the Collserola mountain range, it is probably the area with the most urban anarchy due to its rapid growth, where tall low-cost housing blocks were built more in response to the speculation of the sixties than to a well-thought-out urban criterion.

The result was a bedroom community that, like most peripheral areas of large cities, had serious deficiencies in infrastructure and services to make the place more habitable. It is the district with the most neighborhoods. The latest one recognized is Can Peguera, which becomes neighborhood number 13.

The upper end of the district is occupied by the neighborhoods of Ciutat Meridiana, Torre Baró, and Vallbona, with urban structures heavily marked by the mountainous terrain and large artificial barriers (highways and train tracks). The rest of the neighborhoods are the ones with the highest population, such as Prosperitat, Porta, La Guineueta, Turó de la Peira, Roquetes, and Verdun.

The improvements made for the 1992 Olympic Games were significant, not only for the communication possibilities thanks to the new ring roads, but also for the new facilities and the recovery of green areas.

Properties in Nou Barris

It is one of the neighborhoods where housing is more affordable and, in terms of transportation, it has benefited from the construction of the Ronda de Dalt and the Litoral, the two most important access roads to enter and exit the city. The neighborhoods of Canyelles and Roquetes have experienced a significant urban improvement also thanks to the arrival of metro line L3. One of the main attractions of Canyelles is the Parc de Josep Serra Martí, which stands out for its Magic Fountain. This fountain offers a unique show with waterfalls, water games, colored lights, and musical choreographies specially designed for this fountain.

Due to its characteristics, this district lacks large shopping centers or clear commercial hubs. Instead, there are a variety of shops and small establishments, always close to residential areas. However, good transportation connections allow its residents to travel to commercial areas in other districts of the city.

The neighborhood of La Prosperitat offers significant commercial activity, mainly concentrated on Vía Júlia and the surrounding streets, such as Joaquim Valls or Font de Canyelles. The street Pablo Iglesias, due to its location and wide sidewalks, plays the role of a central promenade that brings together the neighborhood's life.
