Anyone that has had the pleasure of walking around Barcelona will have been amazed by its beauty. Modernist and medieval buildings coexist in harmony, creating a unique atmosphere. Barcelona is different, their streets tell incredible stories and legends that you will have to discover.
One of the most emblematic buildings in the city is Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, located in the heart of the Catalan Capital. Its construction began on the 19th of March 1882, and in its origins the works where directed by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, although he abandoned the project after a short period of time.
A young Antoni Gaudí i Cornet was the one who took up the project. With his brilliant talent, he gave the design a twist until he reflected his own essence in every corner and detail. He worked exclusively on the Sagrada Familia for 15 years. His dedication was such that he even lived in the apse to the building, where he had his workshop.
Even though Gaudí died young – he died when a tram hit him in 1925 – his work there did not die, the Sagrada Familia continued to be built following his guidelines and design, up to this date. Everyone that has participated in the building of Sagrada Familia has contributed to following Gaudí’s original idea.
The construction of the Sagrada Familia temple has been stretching in time because it is an expiatory temple. This kind of temples are built with donations from people, so this is the reason why we still don’t know when it will be finished.
