The importance of Picasso’s portraits

29-03-2017 Lifestyle
Pablo Picasso gave plenty of importance to portraiture ─ his style evolved as his work did. From the second half of March, to the 25th of June 2017, Museu Picasso in Barcelona, with the collaboration of the National Portrait Gallery in London, will be hosting an exhibit about the portraitist side of the Malaga painter, under the name of Picasso. Retratos. The exhibition has on display 81 of Picasso’s pieces, in which the great importance he gave to the human figure is more than tangible. Through the four different galleries, you will be able to admire the evolution of his work and his great technique and style. Picasso did not work under commission. He painted portraits of people who were part of his inner circle. This line of work gave him the necessary freedom to reinterpret each individual in several pictorial styles and moods. The exhibition has been possible because of the important loans from public and private collections from all around the globe, such as the MOMA, MET and Guggenheim museums in New York or the Musée Picasso in Paris. These paintings are accompanied by photographs and other documents of his time as well. You can visit this exhibition from Tuesdays to Sundays, from 9AM to 7PM, and on Thursdays from 9AM to 9:30PM. On Mondays the museum closes its doors, as well as on bank holidays. The price of the exhibition is 6,50€, although you can visit both, the permanent exhibition and the temporary one, for just 14€. It is necessary to buy your ticket in advance as the museum has a limited capacity and is very popular among tourist and locals. The audio guides are available in four languages: Catalan, Spanish, French and English.
