MEAM (Museu Europeu d’Art Modern) organizes one of the most special afternoons of the week in Barcelona. Can you imagine enjoying an opera while having an afternoon snack in a neoclassical inspiration Renaissance ball room? This is one of the activities within the cycle ‘Música Clásica’ that the entity organizes.
The concerts and recitals are usually at 18:00 every Saturday in ‘Sala Noble del Palau Gomis’ – one of the most charming places in the city. It is a privileged atmosphere to listen to an opera as it is in one of the best examples of neoclassical architecture we can find the Catalan capital. This space is also a clear example of how the taste for French fashion influenced this era in Barcelona.
The MEAM headquarters was stablished in ‘Palau Gomis’ in 2011 and, since then, it has turned itself into a key centre for the promotion of culture in Barcelona. Besides being a plastic arts museum, events are organized as well regularly – there are drawing and painting sessions, philosophy debates about everyday things, ‘microtheatre’ and blues, opera, ethnic and baroque concerts for a small public.
Within the activities in ‘ciclo de música clásica’, we would like to highlight the concert taking place on Saturday 18th of February, ‘Las canciones para voz y piano de Arturo Dúo Vital’. You will be able to hear the mezzosoprano Guillermina Gallardo and the pianist Carmen Santamaria playing Manuel de Falla, Maurice Ravel and Arturo Dúo Vital’s music.
In March, make sure you mark in the calendar the 4th as there is a Spanish guitar concert in which Chopin, Tàrrega, Albéniz and Turina’s pieces will be played by Manuel Sánchez.
The concerts will finish on a Saturday, on March 25th with ‘Impresionismo: la música de Debussy’ by ‘Trio Fiesole’ (Oskár Varga – violin -, Barnabá Baranyai – violoncello -, and Javier López – piano-). A very special concert in which their music will be a tribute to painting, light and colour.
Very close to the MEAM, in ‘el Born’, we suggest that you take a look at this wonderful refurbished 110sq m house. It is laid out in 5 floors and is completely exterior, so you will get lots of natural light. And it is excellently connected as well!
