Guide Menorca

Menorca is natural balance and pure Mediterranean. Living on this island is calm, nature, relaxation and a family-orientated environment. It has numerous beaches, beautiful landscapes and history, and on top of its natural beauty we have the tradition, culture and cuisine of Menorca, making it one of the most exclusive, unique places to live.

This Spanish island in the Balearic archipelago is in the heart of the Mediterranean sea, with its capital in the city of Mahón. It is the second-largest island in the Balearic chain and the seventh in Spain. It has approximately 90,000 inhabitants, which triples in the summer season.

Its two official languages are Spanish and Catalan (which on the island is known as Menorquín), but given the international, global nature of the island, most residents have direct contact with other languages, such as French, English and German. Plus, it has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures, and scarce precipitation. One thing that marks Menorca is the tramontana wind, which blows from the north and quite strongly in winter. This wind is responsible for the unique geography of the northern coast of the island, considered one of the most spectacular in the whole Mediterranean.

Particularly prized for its landscapes and unbeatable focus on environmental preservation, Menorca is a Unesco Biosphere Reserve. This shows how the island has been able to juggle its consumption of resources and its economic and cultural activities with preservation of its heritage and landscapes, which are in excellent condition.

Its eight municipalities, Mahón, Ciutadella, Sant Lluís, Alaior, Es Castell, Es Mercadal, Ferreries and Es Mitjorn Gran, attract each year a huge number of tourists and residents, who choose to enjoy the charms of this unique island. Plus, Menorca has some of the best beaches of any Spanish island, with turquoise, white-sand coves like Macarella and Macarelleta, Cala Pregonda, Cala Mitjana and Mitjaneta, Cala Tortuga, Cala en Tuqueta, Cala Galdana, and many more. Politically, the island is part of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands, and economically it has a balanced mix of agriculture, industry and services, above all in the tourism sector, as foreigners seek out its tranquil vibe, coastal spirit and many attractions.

The island of Menorca has activities for everyone. If you love sport and the outdoors, Camí de Cavalls is a hiking path dating back to the 14th century that runs along the whole coast of the island. There are also endless sea sports and excursions, which are part of the essence of Menorca and great fun for all ages: Kayaking, windsurfing, sailing, diving, jet skiing and much more. For history buffs, Menorca has Talaiotic monuments and settlements of great value, heritage sites dating back to prehistoric times.

Menorca is the heart of the Balearic Islands, the one people always return to as if it were the first time, with its blend of coastal and natural attractions, full of life, tourism and leisure activities. Menorca today is one of the most popular destinations among residents and tourists, offering options that suit all sorts of people.
